At LLNL, Director of the Accelerated Certification of Additively Manufactured Metals Initiative (http://acamm.llnl.gov ). Started a research program on grain boundary engineering where techniques were developed to give ordinary materials extraordinary properties. Earlier, launched a research project in the area of adhesion and bonding at interfaces in materials. Managed development of an ultrahigh vacuum diffusion-bonding machine. As the first of its kind in the U.S., it was to be used to make the bicrystals needed to experimentally investigate the relation of interface structure to material properties.
